Luxottica, the dominant frame producer, owns a portfolio of eyewear brands that includes Persol and Ray-Ban, the latter of which is the biggest brand in the market. It holds the licenses to produce eyewear for global fashion brands such as Chanel, Armani, Prada and and manages the distribution of its products through 200, 000 wholesale doors. In 2014, the Italian company generated over €7.6 billion (about $8.5 billion) in revenue. In addition, Luxottica owns the Sunglass Hut retail brand and is a retail company in its own right, with over 7, 000 stores worldwide, giving it a majority share of the eyewear market. The second biggest player, the Safilo Group, holds licenses for Dior, Fendi, Céline and . It employs more than 150 designers, adding more than 3, 000 new models to the market a year, sold through a network of 90, 000 wholesale doors. The company reported €1.17 billion (about $1.33 billion) in revenue in 2014 and annual growth of about five percent. Marchon Eyewear, De Rigo and Marcolin, the three smaller players in the market, each have licensing deals with major global brands. Marchon holds licenses from, Valentino, Salvatore Ferragamo and Chloé; De Rigo holds Lanvin, and ; and Marcolin holds, Balenciaga, Tod’s and Ermenegildo Zegna. A New Number Five? In September, Kering told press, “The current size of the Kering brands’ business is roughly €350 million [making] Kering one of the top five players in this industry… Kering will fully control the eyewear value chain, from design to product development and supply chain, and from branding and marketing to sales.” But why did Kering choose to go it alone? In the statement announcing the launch of its eyewear division, Kering highlighted that, "The premium segment of the eyewear business is currently growing in the high double-digits." The importance of eyewear as an entry-level product for its brands speaks to the other key advantage stemming from Kering’s move: control. The Exane BNP Paribas report states, “The ubiquitous distribution typical of most license contracts adds to brand trivialisation risk.” By taking its eyewear in-house, controlling development, distribution and sales, Kering could “maintain desirability through perceived exclusivity.”

Once considered a luxury, polarized sunglasses are now within reach of most anglers, and the amount of science and technology that goes into building a pair of quality polarized fishing sunglasses is incredible. Modern high-end shades are a combination of components that have been refined through bioengineering, anthropometry (design based on human physical characteristics), and quantum electrodynamics. Today’s fishing shades incorporate decades of research and development in optical innovation, and this technological evolution has led to ground-glass and thermoplastic polymer lenses that enable us to see farther and deeper with clearer resolution than ever before. Polarized glasses have become de rigueur for anyone taking to the water. From weekend perch jerkers to deep-sea fishing guides, no fisherman should be without a pair. With this in mind, we gathered a representative field and put them through an exhaustive two-week test. Smith Chief These full-coverage glasses have a large lens area (1.7 by 2.4 inches), and the photochromic lenses adjust with the sun’s intensity—a fantastic feature for ever-changing light conditions. The glasses are excellent for nearly every fishing application. The fit-and-finish is the best in the field, as are the stainless hinges. The ground-glass lenses are far more scratch-resistant than a lot of the polycarbonates. Overall: ★ ★ ★ ★ Price: $199 Contact: smithoptics.com Durability: A+ Lenses: A, Glass Comfort: A- Hinges: A+ Fit and Finish: A+ Price/Value: A- Weight: 1.54 oz Final Word: Big, beefy shades with photochromic glass lenses will find favor with nearly all fishermen. Wiley X Saint The shatter-proof lenses provide peace of mind when flipping tungsten weights, and they had no color aberration. The side-plates and hinges proved rugged, and the straight earpieces allow for easy on-off. A half-frame design keeps the weight under an ounce. An array of extras (clear lenses, a leash cord, a carrying case) helped make this an easy pick for our Great Buy award. Price: Contact: wileyx.com Lenses: B+ (PC) Comfort: A Hinges: B+ Fit and Finish: B- Price/Value: A+ Weight: 94oz Final Word: Tactical style with lenses that are certified for a worksite. A screaming deal, considering all the extras. Costa Cat Cay Costa’s time-tested 580P polycarbonate lenses are the foundation of the Cat Cay, and we found them to be incredibly scratch-resistant. Front-frame cheek venting minimizes fogging, while the supple rubber nose pads and earpiece tips make them all-day comfortable. The lenses clarified the water extremely well, particularly in low-light conditions. This will be appreciated when the bite is on at dawn and dusk. Price: $149 Contact: costadelmar.com Durability: A- Lenses: A+ (PC) Comfort: A Hinges: B- Fit and Finish: A- Weight: 1.12oz Final Word: A solid entry from one of the leaders in the fishing sunglass arena. Great in low light. Maui Jim Waimea Canyon This was the heaviest pair of glasses in the field (1.97 ounces), but the build is stout and well balanced. Wide side plates block stray peripheral light, making these a great choice for fishing in an unrelenting sun. Anti-corrosion spring hinges promise fuss-free operation and a subtly snug fit. The glass lenses are exceptionally clean and handled glare better than any in the field. Overall: ★ ★ ★ ½ Price: $229 Contact: mauijim.com Lenses: A+ Glass Comfort: B+ Hinges: A Price/Value: B- Weight: 1.97 Final Word: At nearly 2 ounces, they aren't light, but they're built like a tank and should last for many seasons. Columbia Lobos The Zeiss polycarbonate lenses are remarkably clean and crisp and had no color aberration or distortion. The wide frames cover the entire eye area neatly, and the hinges provide a snug fit. Rubber inserts on the inside of the earpieces and the tips keep the glasses in place. Outer inserts allow for a great grip when adjusting the glasses with wet hands. Overall: ★ ★ ★ ½ Price: 9 Contact: columbia.com Durability: A Lenses: A+ Weight: 1.10oz Final Word: With lenses from one of the world's best optics makers, visual acuity is not an issue. Revo Guide Extreme The Guide Extreme provides optimal face coverage and detachable side plates that allow the glasses to transition from boat-functional to street-fashionable. These will find favor with shallow-water fishermen, who need to control peripheral light. Blocked vents molded into the inner frame help reduce fogging. A leash with an integrated floatie is included. Price: $209 Contact: revo.com Score Durability: A- Lenses: B (PC) Hinges: B Fit and Finish: B Weight: 1.39oz Final Word: Shallow-water lenses make these go-to glasses for inshore fishermen. Suncloud Warrant We found the Warrant’s lenses performed well, without any major limitations. The nylon frames are light and went virtually unnoticed while worn. The wrap-around style provides great eye coverage with no visible light leakage. The rounded non-reflective frames are finished nicely, and the earpieces have a sleek taper to the tips. However, the nylon-on-nylon hinges and self-tapping screws suggest limited durability. Price: $50 Contact: suncloudoptics.com Durability: B Lenses: B- (PC) Hinges: C+ Fit and Finish: B+ Weight: 1.11oz Final Word: Lots of value here, but the construction makes us wonder how long they'll last under heavy use. Kaenon Hutch Weighing less than an ounce, the Hutch should have been comfortable. Unfortunately, the earpiece tips are sharp and bite into the head, making an over-tip strap a must. Flyfishermen will appreciate the high-contrast lenses for monitoring dry flies, but the skinny temples offer little peripheral sun blockage. We were also disappointed with the hinges, given the price.

Mariah Carey is bringing back her infamous “I don’t know her” line to throw a little shade at Jennifer Lopez, and this time she’s also poking a little fun at Celine Dion and Britney Spears. Carey, who famously uttered the line when referring to Jennifer Lopez years ago, once again admitted that she doesn’t know Lopez or her fellow Las Vegas divas in a new interview on Live! with Kelly after she was asked about her residency in Sin City. Mariah playfully put Jennifer, Celine and Britney on blast in the interview, where she simply told host Kelly Ripa and guest co-host Jussie Smollett “I don’t know any of them” when asked about her fellow popstars, who are also enjoying residency shows in Las Vegas. “I try to remember but I’m so forgetful, ” Mariah joked on the morning talk show, referring to Jennifer Lopez’s recent admission that she feels Carey is “forgetful” for claiming that they’ve never actually met. But while Mariah was just being playful with her slam (we think!) it definitely looked like Carey’s comments about her Las Vegas rivals mean she’s not ready to bury the hatchet with Jennifer Lopez just yet. After years of speculation that they don’t get along, Jennifer was recently quizzed about her supposed bad blood with Carey during an appearance on, where Lopez spoke out for the first time about Mariah’s claims that she “doesn’t know” her. “She does say that. She’s forgetful I guess!” Jennifer told Wendy after the daytime talk show host asked her about why Mariah previously denied all knowledge of her in a past interview. Jennifer even claimed on the show that she and Carey have actually “met many times” during their lengthy careers. “I don’t know… I don’t know her that well, ” Jennifer said.

The rise, fall, and resurgence of the most iconic sunglasses brand in the world. No wardrobe is complete without a white t-shirt, indigo jeans, and a pair of sunglasses. Across the world there is one eyewear brand that is most well known, most recognizable, and most mimicked. When you see them you might not be able to read the signature on the lens’ corner, but you know what it says: Ray-Ban. The Dawn Before Ray-Ban, American pilots wore goggles that resembled those worn by scuba-divers. Aviator and Air Service veteran John Macready reached out to Bausch & Lomb for help designing spectacle-like eye protection that would tame the sky’s blues and the sun’s brilliance. In 1937 B&L released the green-tinted anti-glare Ray-Ban Aviator. Immediately popular in the military, the larger public first saw the Aviator sunglasses when newspapers printed pictures of General MacArthur landing in the Philippines. During the ’30s and ’40s Ray-Ban developed the Outdoorsman and the Shooter for non-pilots. Further research at the time resulted in gradient and mirrored lenses, favored in World War II for their protection and utility. Rise to Glory The ’50s introduced passenger jets, Rock and Roll, and the Ray-Ban Wayfarer. With the media’s help, the Wayfarer changed how the public perceived eyewear. Audrey Hepburn, James Dean, and Marilyn Monroe performed on the silver screen wearing Wayfarers. Sunglasses were no longer just eye protection, they became a fashion accessory. As the glasses rose in popularity Ray-Ban continued to innovate, offering Photochromic lenses treated with a polymer film that darkened when exposed to UV rays. They also released Signet and Caravan frames, and a broad line of eyewear designs for women. Night Falls The ’80s would mark the climax for Ray-Ban. Michael Jackson wore them during his “Bad” tour–the highest attended tour in history. Tom Cruise wore Ray-Bans in some of the most iconic movies of the decade–Top Gun and Risky Business, resulting in a 40% surge in Ray-Ban sales. Ray-Ban lowered their prices and build quality to increase the accessory’s accessibility, but the brand soon reached saturation. 1990s America rejected the fashion of the ’80s and Ray-Bans were seen by the public as overplayed. Despite Ray-Ban products appearing in several movies such as Reservoir Dogs and Men in Black, Ray-Ban continued to decline as Oakley took more and more of the sunglasses market. Once a luxury brand, Ray-Bans could be purchased at convenience stores and gas stations.

Sunglass lenses become dirty with daily wear, regardless of the type of finish on the lens. This is especially true when it comes to sunglasses. You’re always taking them off and putting them back on, so they’re bound to get smudged. A common tactic for cleaning sunglasses is to moisten the lens with your breath and then wipe them with a shirt or napkin. Avoid this gross practice. Rather than helping, it can smear dirt spots and scratch your lenses. Here’s what you really need to know: Is cleaning your shades more hassle than it’s worth? Get a new pair: Avoid drying with paper products because their wood content can scratch the lenses. Use a liquid soap that doesn’t have added lotions because they coat the lenses with a milky film. Clear dishwashing soap (such as Dawn) works best. Soap removes body oil not only from the lenses, but from the nose pads, hinges, and screws. Don’t forget these areas when cleaning, because body oil can loosen them and cause future breakage. Now go flash those shiny shades at the world!

RB3138: The Ray-Ban RB3138 is also a great aviator style called the Shooters. These are from the men collection and come in two different colors: Arista Gold and Black. This style has recently been released by Ray-Ban and offered in 4 different colors currently.

If you or your child suffer from blurred or moving text, letter swapping or any other of the symptoms listed, this could be your lucky day. In fact, what you are about to read may be helpful if you or your child suffer from one of the following: Reading and learning problems Dyslexia ADD, ADHD, Autism or Asperger Syndrome Behavioral or emotional problems Headaches, migraines, fatigue or other physical symptoms Light Sensitivity (Photophobia) Traumatic brain injury (TBI), whip lash or concussions Certain medical and visual conditions But let’s start with a story. I have always been more auditory than visual. In class, I would listen to my teachers, ask questions and remember what I heard. It was not much use giving me a book to read for knowledge (although I loved reading stories). I would ask some who had read it to “just tell me” what they got out of it. At the end of high school, I returned from 6 months as an exchange student abroad and had to prepare for some final exams. I got Ronit to read me her notes (she had superb notes, mind you, and I certainly enjoyed being with her and listening to her) and passed the exams with annoying success for those who had been in class for 6 months prior. When I got to university, I had to read and write a lot more and was surprised to get splitting headaches after one page. After that, I got very little out of continuing to read, not to mention it was torture. Again, I got through it by spending a lot of time with my study group and engaging them in discussions about the material, as well as by always attending lectures. Then, I decided I would have my eyes checked. It turned out I had slight far-sight and slight astigmatism, so I got a pair of glasses. I could see better with them, but I was still tired at the end of the day and nearly always had a headache in the evening. After a few years, I decided not to wear my glasses anymore. I did eye exercises and forced myself to read without glasses for a couple of months while on a long break and never put them back on again. Except I was still reading very slowly and my eyes would be the first part of me to “call it a day”. A couple of years ago, I found out about Behavioral Optometry while looking for a way to help my son see better in class. Recently, I decided to find out if there was anything this field of science can do for me too. I went “to have my eyes checked”, but Peter the optometrist kept saying to me, “We don’t see with our eyes. We see with our brain, so you’re actually having your brain checked”.

With the approach of summer, you may notice that those solar rays are getting more intense and you’re squinting when you are outside. Instead of searching the glove box of your car or the junk drawer in your kitchen for your old, scratched sunglasses from last season, why not treat yourself to a new, flashy pair of shades? New York Fashion Week 2016 featured some new trends as well as standard designs for eyewear, proving that sunglasses are still the hottest accessory and an absolute must-have for all months of the year. Let’s consider the many merits of sunglasses: Sunglasses protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun, which helps prevent eye cancers, skin cancers and eye conditions like cataracts. Covering the delicate skin around your eyes can help prevent sunburn, wrinkles and premature aging to keep you looking more youthful. Sunglasses can add interest and whimsy to any outfit through color, lens shape and frame design. It’s always fun to go incognito behind a pair of big frames when you want to people-watch. So what is in-style this year for sunglasses? A few themes stood out in Fashion Week. Frame Shape —thicker frames and rims are popular this year, with over-sized round lenses or oval lenses with points (giving a “feline” look). Color —go bold this year and choose bright colors that add some pop and pizazz to your outfit. Thick, brilliant white frames are always a dramatic choice. Lenses —lens color will range from yellow to translucent brown to black opaque. Match your preferred lens hue to your favorite color, style and thickness of frame and you are dressed for success(Source: Fashion). Freshen up your face with a bright new pair of sunglasses this summer. As you shop, don’t forget that the most important purpose of your shades is to protect your eyes from ultraviolet radiation. Before you purchase those chunky frames that make you feel like a celebrity, make sure that they are clearly marked as providing 100 percent UVA/UVB protection.

Photo Credit: kjekol via Getty Images Many of the editors here at The Huffington Post are proud glasses-wearing girls. But like lots of women, when we throw on our eyeglasses we tend to neglect doing our makeup. No one's really going to notice our crooked cat-eye liner behind our tortoiseshell frames, right? Wrong, according to Bobbi Brown. The makeup artist and cosmetics creator believes that most women who wear glasses need to at least put on mascara and liner. While that might sound pretty simple, Brown is making it foolproof with her book aptly titled, "Everything Eyes." Inside the 120-page beauty book, Brown breaks down simple tips like the five essential brushes you need to do your eye makeup and what to look for in an eye cream. Plus, the second half focuses on how to choose the perfect glasses for your face shape and personal style. After spending hours delving into "Everything Eyes, " we've rounded up seven makeup mistakes girls who wear glasses should avoid. Check them out below! 1. If your brows are messy and unruly, apply a clear brow shaper AFTER color application. This mascara-like wand with liquid color both tames and defines brows. For a subtle look, you can simply brush up your brows with a brow shaper. 2. If you have a lot of under-eye darkness, skip lining the lower lash line as it will only draw attention to the problem. Instead, apply waterproof mascara to the lower lashes. To soften the line, just use your finger or a cotton swab to smudge slightly. Powder liner can soften a too-harsh gel liner and make it look diffused. 3. Always curl your lashes before you apply mascara, otherwise you may break your lashes. Crimp at the base of the lashes, then hold the curler for 5 to 10 seconds as you lift up and go. Just once is enough. For a quick pick-me-up, hold the lashes in a curl with your fingertips for a few seconds. 4. The glass in your frames can highlight under-eye discoloration and darkness. So corrector and concealer underneath the eye and in creases is essential. Apply corrector with a brush to the inner corner of the eye area, placing it only where you see darkness. Then, gently blend with your fingers. Next, clean your brush with a tissue before applying concealer. 5. If you have redness around your eyes, stay away from shadows with red or purple undertones. These colors will exacerbate the redness. For a foolproof eye, layer shadows from light to dark. Start with the palest shadow as the base, then layer a medium shade and apply the darkest shade last. 6. The color of your eyeshadow shouldn't compete with the color of your glasses. If you want to do the same color as your frames on your eyelids, try a base hue that's a shade lighter, and go a few shades darker for the crease color. Finish with black liner and mascara. 7. When you have a mix of confident colors on your hair, lips and frames, keep your eye makeup simple.
